Who can practice breathwork offered in Exhale Hour?

The quick, guided sessions available within the Lindywell App can be integrated into your daily routine and is a beneficial and safe practice for most.

Exhale Hour is a meditative breathwork experience that is for those who are looking for deeper breathwork experiences in community. We recommend that Exhale Hour participants be at least 18 years old to participate. This particular breathwork practice is not recommended for children. The breathing pattern and length are both too long and too activating for a child’s nervous system. Breathwork is wonderful for children but this practice would not be suitable.

We believe you are the expert of knowing your own body, so if you are having discomfort while practicing breathwork, return to normal breathing with a gentle exhale.  If you have any pain, we do recommend speaking with your trusted medical professional to provide in-person recommendations based on your unique situation or consider partnering with a therapist to support you on your continued healing journey.

We recommend contacting your medical professional if you have any concerns around trying a new routine. We also recommend completing any breathwork under the guidance of a medical professional for anyone with the following conditions:

  • Bipolar depression
  • Cardiovascular problems
  • Epilepsy or history of seizures
  • Glaucoma or high or abnormal blood pressure
  • History of aneurysms
  • On a heavy medication regimen
  • Osteoporosis
  • Recent surgery
  • Retinal detachment
  • Severe psychiatric symptoms, particularly psychosis or paranoia
  • Strokes and neurological conditions
  • Pregnancy
